7 years of Ewe Felty Thing

This week Ewe Felty Thing will be turning 7 years old!

On the 19th of March, way back in 2018, Ewe Felty Thing was born in the back room of another shop. These 7 years have been an incredible string of highs and lows. We’ve won awards, met amazing friends, had some fantastic events, and opened our new shop in Conwy; but we’ve also struggled with pandemics, closing our original shop, personal and family health problems, and a challenging economic climate.

We know that we wouldn’t still be here if it weren’t for the support of each and every customer and supporter who has shared a post, bought yarn, joined our membership, or been to one of our events.

Thank you for being part of the Ewe Felty Thing family.

We’re going to be having a party next weekend, the 22nd and 23rd of March, and we’d love you to celebrate with us.

We’ve got quite a few things planned, including:

  • A unique birthday colourway which Nikki is busy dyeing this week.
  • A game of pass the parrcel for every customer to join in with.
  • Free cake and refreshments all weekend, so join us for a weekend of craft and chatter
  • Special offers and free gifts
  • Workshops!

The workshops we have planned are:

Saturday 11am – mini peg loom wall hangings £35
Saturday 3pm – needle felt a sheep £20
Sunday 11am – dorset button keyrings £30
Sunday 2pm – drop spindle tryouts £10

There are only 6 spaces available on each workshop, so please book your place to avoid disappointment. Just click the links above!

Please come and join us at any time over the weekend (we’re open with normal hours) and celebrate with us.

Nikki’s news

I’m sorry that I missed last week’s blog post. Unfortunately Adam is back in hospital having been taken back in by ambulance last Wednesday night. His functional seizures haven’t improved since they started 7 weeks ago, and unfortunately worsened so that we can’t look after him safely at home. I’ve been staying in the hospital with him as he often has episodes at night. On the plus side, the doctors aren’t concerned about him outside of these episodes, and have assured me that the episodes themselves aren’t dangerous, just painful and difficult; so it is just a case of trying to stabilise the functional seizures before he can come home.

This does mean that I’m still behind with a lot of my jobs. The final clue of the Coast and Castles MKAL has been tested by two of my Woolbert’s Flockers and so apart from the fact that I have to manage to knit the last squares myself, it is pretty ready to go. I’m hoping to have the final instructions out over the next few weeks even if I can’t show you the finished blanket all sewn up by that point.

The Celtic Capedigan is also making progress. I have finally had the pattern back from the tech editor so I’m on the final edit now. This should be released next week, so anyone who has pre-ordered a pattern, you will have it delivered then. For those who have been thinking about it, the sale price is still active until the pattern is released, so make the most of it!

Because of the situation. I’m still in my sock stage. I’ve finished the second pair of socks using Urth Yarns Uneek self striping fingering yarn. Because of the long colour change on these, it means that I do now have two matching pairs of socks, but they weren’t knitted in order.

I’ve also finished the knitted hat from this month’s Knit A-Long!

It’s been a really enjoyable knit (as all of WoollyWormhead’s patterns are!). I have cast on the matching cowl as well, so both will be on display in the shop soon. The West Yorkshire Spinners BFL Fleece DK worked beautifully for it. as you can see in the picture.

If you haven’t started yours yet, don’t be scared. There are lots of tutorial links included in the pattern to help if you’ve not tried short rows or provisional cast on methods before.

I’m looking forward to trying the crochet one next!

I’m going to be spending the next week prepping for the party next weekend, around looking after Adam in hospital. I really am looking forward to seeing you all there. I’ll be running the workshops myself too!

Speak soon!

Nikki x
