I’m back!

Sorry for the lack of new content over the last few weeks. My eldest was discharged from hospital quite abruptly, and so along with a few other things (including Wonderwool!) I haven’t managed to get to the keyboard long enough (or with enough brain!) to put anything down for you. So, what’s been happening? The short answer – a lot! Even though the blog has been quiet, the shop hasn’t been. We’ve had some lovely new deliveries, met with reps, and are plotting and planning some new ideas! Lets start with new stock! Provisional cast-ons (and lots of pretty colours!)

We’ve finished the first month of our knit and crochet alongs! How are you getting on? If you’re struggling with how to get started on the knitted hat, then you aren’t alone. A few people have contacted me asking for me to do a tutorial on provisional cast-ons, so here you go! Birthday parties and pricing your work

Hello! Sorry for not blogging last week, it was the birthday party and (wonderfully) it was really busy! We had a good turnout from our Woolbert’s Flockers as well as many of our lovely regulars and some new customers as well. There are still a few skeins of our ‘Lucky Number 7’ birthday yarn remaining. I may have snaffled a couple of them myself to make a Timeless Twists Hat and some Simple Stay-Put Socks! Pics of both will follow once I am in one place long enough to actually photograph them! 7 years of Ewe Felty Thing

This week Ewe Felty Thing will be turning 7 years old! On the 19th of March, way back in 2018, Ewe Felty Thing was born in the back room of another shop. These 7 years have been an incredible string of highs and lows. We’ve won awards, met amazing friends, had some fantastic events, and opened our new shop in Conwy; but we’ve also struggled with pandemics, closing our original shop, personal and family health problems, and a challenging economic climate. Happy St David’s Day!

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus! It’s the start of spring and also the start of our next knit and crochet alongs! For March and April we are going to be working on the gorgeous Etereo Hat by Woolly Wormhead, and the Berlin Hat by Kiku Corner. Woolbert’s Flock members had said they wanted to do more work on short row shaping, and Woolly Wormhead is the absolutely queen of shortrow shaping and colourwork. I have made a few of her hats before, and a few years ago we did her Toph hat as a knit along. The Berlin Hat seems to…

What a load of Wool!

Happy Saturday! Sorry I’ve missed a couple of weeks – I’ll explain further down what’s been happening. For today’s main focus, I want to talk about the difference between different breeds of sheep and how it makes an impact on your knitting and crochet. Sheep Breeds – It’s not ‘all just wool’! So, lets get things started by explaining what wool is. Wool is another name for hair or fur, and tends to refer specifically to the fibre that grows on sheep, as opposed to other animals. Yarn weight calculations

Happy Saturday! Thank you to everyone who has dropped me messages this week. My eldest got home from hospital late last night after over a week with a diagnosis of FND (Funcitonal Neurological Disporder). They’re still having seizures and needing a lot of support, so I’m not going to be in the shop for a little while yet whilst we get support in place. Just a short one…

I’m just writing a short blog post this week as I’ve spent the last 3 days in and out of hospital looking after my eldest, Adam. There are plus sides to hours in waiting rooms and on wards though, I’ve managed to complete a pair of socks which will be a gift. I used my Simple Stay-Put socks pattern, without alternating the colours. I’ve cast on a second pair now to keep me busy – it’s a small project which is transportable and needs minimum brain-power. This is good as I’m running on Very Little Sleep. The shop is fully…

Water pullava!

Well, if you’re anywhere in the Conwy area, you’ll know that we’ve had a bit of an issue with our water supply. Wednesday evening a large main burst near the Llyn Cowlid water treatment facility, which has wiped out the water supplies to a lot of Conwy county. We got in on Thursday morning to find no supply to the shop. We struggled through for the day before finding out that it was not going to be a ‘quick fix’ and that from a legal standpoint we should have been closed. As such we stayed closed on Friday as well.…

Singles or Plied?

Happy Saturday! I hope you’re keeping well. It’s flipping cold here in Conwy still – there is ice on the paths, and we’re all wearing our woolies here in the shop still. I’ve even resorted to putting my heated throw on my chair and round my legs whilst I’m sat at the desk. I’m hoping that you’re all managing to keep warm! We’ve had a leak through the ceiling in the new room as well, so if you’re in the shop and see a missing tile above the window – that’s why! I can now say that soggy ceiling tiles…
