As part of your purchase we always set up your wheel for you, supply you with a small fibre pack to get you started, and offer an hour’s tuition on your wheel when you collect it from us.

You can also choose our Boutique Package, which includes a further hour of tuition and one of our lovely starter packs!

Ashford Traditional wheels come in a choice of either a natural finish or a lacquered finish.

About The Wheel

When you think of a spinning wheel, the Ashford Traditional is the one you think of! These wheels are much loved and are a beautiful piece of furniture as well as a lovely bit of machinery.

The Traditional is a very popular wheel because

The design has been proven for over 40 years
It has a large 56cm (22ins) wheel
It’s robust

Why is it so popular? The separate drive band and bobbin brake adjustment is easy to understand and simple to operate. The bobbins are quick and easy to change. Scotch tension and 3 speed flyer allow for a wide variety of yarn to be spun. Horizontal adjustment of the maiden bar allows perfect alignment with the 3 speed whorl.
Ball bearings and large 56cm (22ins) wheel makes treadling smooth and effortless and easy to maintain a steady speed. The wide legs give good stability especially when speed spinning. The treadle is pivoted to allow a comfortable heel-toe action. Lazy Kate and 4 bobbins included. The many optional accessories make this an extremely versatile wheel.

You can choose to have either a natural finish on your wheel or a lacquered (varnished) finish.

You can also choose to upgrade to our boutique package for an additional £150. This includes everything you need to get you started on your spinning journey, and an extra hour’s tuition on your wheel. We’ll even throw in refreshments to make your day extra special.

A yarn gauge
Hand carders
1.5kg (15 x 100g) of natural wool from different breeds to learn to spin on.
