Have you always wanted to learn to felt but never had a chance?

Then Nikki Small’s felting workshops are the place for you!

What will I be doing?

These full-day and  3 session courses will take you through the basics of both needle and wet felting.

Intro to Felting 3 week course

Over these three 1/2 day sessions we will take you through needle and wet felting.

In your first session you will be starting with needle felting and working on a simple project to get your techniques in place before moving on to a 3d project of your choice.

In session two, you will be learning wet felting. We will start with making wet felted balls to help you understand the process before moving on to making a wet felted picture.

In session three you will be combining your skills as you needle felt some details onto the wet felted picture you created in the previous session.

Intro to Needle Felting Day

This day course will have you starting the morning with a simple cookie-cutter shape to get your techniques in place before moving on to a 3d project.

In the afternoon we will move on to using different needles and techniques to create your projects and experiment with needle felting a small picture.

Intro to Wet Felting Day

This day course will start with creating simple wet felted balls to help you get used to the feel of the fibre and the techniques required. We will then move on to creating a wet felted picture.

In the afternoon we will introduce working with resists to create a hollow bowl or vase.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials are included in your course price and so you do not need to bring anything with you. We’ll even make sure you have a notebook and pen to help you remember what you’ve done on the day. Refreshments will be provided as well, so please let us know in advance of any particular dietary requirements. If you are attending for a day course, there will be a lunch break for you to enjoy the local cafes or sit in our cosy vault with a packed lunch.

Do I need any previous experience?

No, these courses are suitable for complete beginners.

Who is my tutor?

Nikki Small will be leading your workshop. She is the founder of Ewe Felty Thing, and a fibre artist and designer based in North Wales. She is a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher with a love of all things woolly. Starting her wool journey with knitting as a teenager, Nikki has spent the last 20 years in the fibre world. She is passionate about the use of quality natural fibres in projects to enhance both the enjoyment of the creative process and the love of the finished object.
