Seasonal Knit & Crochet Along: Celebrating St Dwynwen’s Day
Share
As winter settles in and we look for small, meaningful ways to brighten the darker days, we’re delighted to launch our Seasonal Knit & Crochet Along, inspired by Santes Dwynwen—the Welsh patron saint of lovers.
While many of us celebrate love again on St Valentine’s Day in February, here in Wales we have our own beautiful tradition on 25 January: St Dwynwen’s Day, a heartfelt celebration of affection, friendship, and all the people who bring joy into our lives.
This year, we’re marking the occasion the crafty way—through colour, creativity, and community.
💖 Who Was St Dwynwen?
St Dwynwen (pronounced Doo‑in‑wen) lived during the 5th century and is often described as the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine. Legend says she was a princess who, after heartbreak, prayed for the happiness and protection of all lovers. In return, she was granted three wishes—one of which was that the people of Wales would always find love and peace.
Today, St Dwynwen’s Day is widely celebrated across Wales with cards, flowers, handcrafted gifts, and tokens inspired by traditional Welsh lovespoons—beautifully carved wooden spoons that symbolise devotion.
🧶 A Crafty Celebration: New Limited Edition Colourways
To honour the season, our shop designer Nikki has created two brand new, exclusive colourways inspired by Welsh landscape and lore:

✨ Dwynwen
Soft, romantic, warm pinks, and full of gentle shifts in tone—perfect for projects inspired by love, kindness, and connection.
⛰️ Eryri
Named for the breathtaking beauty of Snowdonia (Eryri), this colourway captures rugged mountains, misty mornings, and dramatic skies. A beautiful companion shade to pair with Dwynwen or use alone.
Both colourways will be available for this seasonal CAL/KAL—once they’re gone, they’re gone!
