This cowl, by Elizabeth McGuire at Make Do Vintage, reflects her love of 20th-century architecture and abstract art.

Above The City is a striking geometric two-coloured mosaic cowl where only one colour is used in each round. It is an enjoyable knit, suitable for ambitious novices who can knit, purl, increase and decrease working in the round on circular needles. For more experienced knitters, this is a quick, relaxing project and stash buster to gift or treat yourself.

Yarn Requirements:

• Main colour: Approximately 125m of DK yarn.
• Contrast colour: Approximately 65m of DK yarn.

Notions:

• 3.5mm and 4mm circular needles, 60cm long.
• 9 stitch markers to mark the 16-stitch repeat pattern, including 1 distinct stitch marker at the end of the round.
• Yarn needle to weave in the ends.

Tension/Gauge:
Gauge is worked in the round on 4mm needles.

• Stockinette stitch: 21 stitches x 24 rounds = 10cm/4" square.
• Mosaic colourwork pattern:
  • Width: 16 stitches = 6.5cm/2.5"
  • Height: 32 rounds = 8.5cm/3.25"
